From Manzoni to Lake Como to the beautiful mountains that surround it

Lecco, the second largest city on Lake Como! Famous for the well-known writer Alessandro Manzoni who wrote the novel “I Promessi Sposi” (The Betrothed), it is an excellent starting point for trekking and biking excursions thanks to the presence of the majestic mountains that surround it such as the Grigne group, Resegone, Monte Legnone, San Martino and the entire “Lecco” Orobie group.

The proximity to areas such as Valsassina and Valtellina offers visitors to Lecco the opportunity to spend a day discovering the tastes and flavours of the area.

In Valsassina for cheeses as there are renowned cheese companies specialising in the production of taleggio, caprino, robiola, quartirolo and gorgonzola to name but a few.

While in Valtellina, it is possible to taste excellent wines such as Valtellina Superiore DOCG, Inferno, Grumello, Sassella, Valgella, Maroggia, Nebbiolo, Sforzato di Valtellina DOCG at well-known wineries in the area and visit their production from the vineyards to the cellar barrels.

What to see during a visit to Lecco: Torre Viscontea in Piazza XX Settembre, the old town, Teatro della Società in Piazza Garibaldi, Piazza Cermenati with the monument dedicated to Mario Cermenati, Basilica di San Nicolò and the Bell Tower, the monument to Alessandro Manzoni.
