Colico

On the northern tip of Lake Como

Colico, on the northern tip of Lake Como, combines nature and history: beaches, sailing, trekking on Mount Legnone, Fort Montecchio Nord and Piona Abbey, with breathtaking views.

Colico, located at the northern end of Lake Como, is a resort town nestled between lake and mountains.

It offers beaches ideal for swimming, windsurfing and sailing, and scenic trails to Mount Legnone and Mount Muggio. The town boasts historic sites such as the Montecchio North Fort, among the best-preserved fortifications from World War I, and the Spanish-era Fuentes Fort.

A few kilometers away, Piona Abbey provides peace and spectacular views of the lake.

Colico is also a starting point for excursions, boat trips, and Valtellina food and wine tours.

Colico, nestled between the mountains and the northern tip of Lake Como, is a destination that combines nature, history and relaxation. Its lakefront is the heart of the town: a stroll among bars, restaurants and panoramic views perfect at sunset.

The beaches of Lido di Colico offer clear waters and winds ideal for sailing, windsurfing and kitesurfing, making the resort one of the most popular with lake sportsmen.

Behind the town rises the majestic Mount Legnone, the highest peak in Lecco's Orobie mountains, from which there are spectacular views of the lake and Valtellina. More gentle but equally scenic is Mount Muggio, ideal for trekking and family outings. Slightly further north is the Pian di Spagna and Lago di Mezzola Nature Reserve, a peaceful oasis where you can stroll among reeds and spot herons and swans.

Colico also holds important historical relics. Fort Montecchio Nord, dating from World War I, is one of the best-preserved forts in Europe, with the original cannons still intact. Not far away are the remains of Fort Fuentes, built by the Spanish in the 17th century to control the Valtellina.

A must-see is the Abbey of Piona, a small Romanesque masterpiece overlooking the lake. Surrounded by olive trees and silence, it is home to a community of monks who produce liqueurs and natural essences.

Lovers of outdoor activities can ride the Sentiero Valtellina bike path, which follows the course of the Adda River to Bormio, or stretches of the Lake Como Greenway, surrounded by villages and lake landscapes.

Finally, Colico is also about taste and tradition: restaurants and farms offer alpine cheeses, pizzoccheri, bresaola and Valtellina wines. Every week the local market enlivens the center with scents, colors and typical products.
