Bellano
The Village of artists
The Village of artists
A renowned locality of the Lake Como area, famous for its concentration of people who have distinguished themselves in the arts of writing and poetry, painting, sculpture, musical and theatrical art and even photography, which is why it is known as the village of artists.
The historical centre of Bellano is very characteristic and dates back to the Middle Ages. You can find yourself among narrow alleys that intertwine with each other until you reach the beautiful lakeside promenade.
Here in Bellano you can visit the world-famous Orrido di Bellano, a natural canyon carved out over the years by the waters of the Pioverna torrent rising from the mountains above. You will be able to admire caves and caverns and suggestive waterfalls while walking on the footbridge built especially for tourists curious about this natural spectacle.
Bellano is also a strategic point for departing on board the public boat of the Lake Como navigation to reach the other localities of the Lario such as Varenna, Bellagio, Menaggio, Tremezzo, and so on until arriving in Como. Bellano can also be reached by rail link and is another town that is part of the stages of the Sentiero del Viandante.
What to see during a visit to Bellano: Orrido di Bellano, Ca' del Diavol, San Nicolao, Pesa Vegia, The Museum of Milk and the History of Muggiasca (MUU), Sentiero del Viandante, Vendrogno and the Muggiasca Valley, Alpine pastures and coastal hamlets.
