From April to October
Option 1:
Revöira ethnographic trail
● Difficulty: Medium (approx. 4 hours total)
● Distance 9 km
● Ascent 500 m
This excursion, which is a journey through time, starts from Lavertezzo, known for its two-arched bridge “Ponte dei Salti” and accessible by car or bus (Locarno-Tenero-Sonogno line).
Climbing uphill, you soon reach Sambugaro, a small village. Continue along ancient paths that were used in summer to take livestock to graze on the alpine pastures.
The route winds its way uphill through a chestnut forest, over stone steps, past ancient ruins.
In Revöira, you will see the first tanks (35 in total, with a capacity of about 4800 liters), which served as rainwater collection reservoirs.
Groundwater was conveyed to a cistern through an ingenious system of basins.
Continuing towards Casa di Dentro, you will encounter several remains of the ancient water system.
Descending, you will cross the “Piantagione dei Valdell” (protected area) above Motta.
Back in the valley, follow the course of the green river to Lavertezzo.
Option 2:
Il Sentierone

The tour begins by crossing the famous dam from which “007” James Bond jumped 220 meters into the void for the movie “GoldenEye.”
The more daring can experience this thrill from April to October.
A gentle climb leads to Mergoscia. With Lake Vogorno at your feet and Lake Maggiore behind you, the view is breathtaking.
In Mergoscia there is a bread oven (still in working order) and a church (an energetic place). After crossing a chestnut forest, you arrive at the hamlet of Perbiói, where there is a bench from which you can enjoy a fantastic view. Before Corippo, which has only 12 inhabitants, you descend the steps, cross the stone bridge and climb uphill. If you wish, you can take the bus (Locarno-Tenero-Sonogno line) to Corippo, Bivio (approx. 1 km).
Following the ups and downs along the river, you reach Lavertezzo, where you will find the two-arched “Ponte dei Salti” bridge. Return by bus, Locarno-Tenero-Sonogno line, or by transfer.
Option 3 :
Alpe Costa Refuge
● Difficulty: Medium/challenging (approx. 7 hours total)
● Distance 8 km
● Ascent 1090 m
Frasco, the starting point of the tour, can be reached by car or bus (Locarno-Tenero-Sonogno line).
The route is relatively steep from the start. At the beginning, you walk through shady woods, after which the flora changes and larch trees dominate the landscape.
The trail winds through villages until it reaches A coo der Prèda, the last village, where it climbs steeply and zigzags up to the vast meadow of Alpe Costa and the refuge of the same name.
Return to Frasco along the same path you took on the way there. On the way back, you can stop at the “La Ghironda” farm (A coo der Prèda) to buy typical products such as goat cheese or cured meats.
Those who wish to refresh themselves after the exertions of the walk can enjoy a swim in the Verzasca River.
Option 4:
Monti di Motti
● Difficulty: Medium (approx. 6 hours total)
● Distance 8 km
● Ascent 800 m
Circular trail from the heights above Lake Vogorno, leading to Monti di Motti. The starting and finishing point is the Verzasca dam, which can be reached by car or bus.
This beautiful hike starts at Switzerland's most famous dam, known for James Bond's spectacular bungee jump. At the beginning, you walk on asphalt and gravel, then the road turns into a mountain trail marked in red and white. In less than an hour, you reach Miescio, where you can take your first break on the panoramic bench. Passing through the houses, you continue zigzagging up to the Monti di Metri; from here, a gravel road leads to the Monti di Motti.
The effort of climbing 600 meters is rewarded by the view of Lake Maggiore, and those who are hungry and thirsty can refresh themselves in the tavern.
The return route begins on a very easy trail that passes through Corte di Sopra and Lignasca, then descends steeply.
Down in Fontöbbia, you descend into the valley to the dam.
Option 5:
Val Calnegia la cascata di Foroglio
● Difficulty: Medium (approx. 3 hours total)
● Distance 8,4 km
● Ascent 466 m
Foroglio is a charming village known for its waterfall and as a starting point for various itineraries. A steep stone staircase next to the roaring waterfall leads up to Puntid, where the Val Calnègia opens up, a long, green valley enclosed by rock walls and Alpine peaks with three mountain pastures. The first, Puntid, has flower-filled meadows, an arched bridge and a babbling brook. At the entrance to the valley, a suspension bridge leads to Splüia Bèla (splüi are shelters under rocky outcrops used in the past by livestock and shepherds). The second, Gerra, is an alluvial plain with other splüi, used as pasture for cows (suckler cows) and goats. The trail crosses a varied landscape of woods, meadows, rocks and streams. Calnègia, the third mountain pasture, is characterised by traditional rustic buildings and marks the edge of the valley. Various alpine tours start from here. The same route is taken to return to Foroglio.
