Tirano

Tirano, a small village located at the far end of Valtellina famous for the departure of the Bernina train

Tirano, located at the far end of Valtellina, is an Alpine town full of charm, history and traditions.

Tirano , surrounded by terraced mountains and vineyards, is well known as the starting point of the famous Bernina Express, the little red train that connects Italy to Switzerland crossing breathtaking landscapes to St. Moritz.

The intimate and cozy historic center preserves elegant Renaissance palaces, ancient city gates and quaint little squares. Tirano's spiritual heart is the Sanctuary of the Madonna di Tirano, a masterpiece of the Lombard Renaissance and a pilgrimage destination, famous for its grandiose wooden organ and fine stucco work.

Nature lovers can explore the surroundings by taking routes through vineyards, apple orchards and alpine pastures, or discover the Valtellina Cycle Path, which runs along the Adda River. In cold seasons, Tirano is an ideal base for reaching the ski resorts of Alta Valtellina.

Gastronomically, the town offers the best of the Valtellina tradition: pizzoccheri, sciatt, bresaola and DOCG wines such as Sassella and Inferno. Between culture, nature and authentic flavors, Tirano offers an authentic and welcoming alpine experience.
